Chainsaw MaSCARa takes the Title at GCLAW: Rock the Block

Slikati Photography: GCLAW III

Chainsaw MaSCARa defeated Granny Glad-ass in the final round of GCLAW: Rock the Block.  Granny Glad-ass took home the Crowd Favorite award and audience members noted that their favorite match-up was the "Granny against Chularama...though not equal in strength, [they] were matched in theatricality."

Other moments featured the Arugulator's Biggest Fan winner Gillian Ellison tossing fresh arugula into the face of Donatella in the first round.

No arms were ripped off at this most recent GCLAW event.  However, wrist sprains were present! Little Red Ridin' in the Hood, who was called foul on her "Break-arm position,"  twisted her wrist a bit too far and noted after the match, "My wrist sprain really showed me that arm wrestlers need to take arm position and safety seriously.  It's great fun, but those break-arm rules are no joke."

All in all, GLCAW: Rock the Block was considered an entertainment success, but founder Ellie Costello notes that, "We need to come up with ways to enhance the fundraising piece.  We raised about $200 for the Zootown Arts Community Center with this event, which is certainly more than nothing, but hopefully we'll be raising more like $2000 in the future."

Many thanks go out to all the participating arm wrestlers, volunteers, MC Josh Slotnick, Refs Adelaide Every and Shane Rooney, Nurse Ashley Widtfeldt, Photographer Tom Seiler with Slikati photography, DJ Collin from InkMathematics, and Judges Kia Liszak and Ryan Douglas.

Viva la GCLAW Overall Champion Lady LoFi Wins Over Crowd Favorite Olivia Newton-Brawn

Cinco de Mayo's Viva la GCLAW event at Zoo City Apparel was won by Lady LoFi in a colossal battle against Crowd Favorite Olivia Newton-Brawn.  The two women of rock & roll - Lady LoFi of bands Needlecraft and Ten Year Old Girlfriend and Newton-Brawn formerly of SASShole - demonstrated the many faces of Missoula women.  Namely, Newton-Brawn's colorful, cute, and sweet versus Lady LoFi's zipper-mouthed and black hooded terrifying.  The two went back and forth in battle, with more right and left arm do-overs than had yet been seen in any previous GCLAW match up.  Eventually, the call was thrown to the judges, gaining Lady LoFi the victory, Newton-Brawn the crowd favorite, and fans agreeing that the one thing the two wrasslers have in common is brute strength.

GCLAW raised $280 in support of Total Fest XI, which will be held August 16 - 18, 2012.  Viva la GCLAW shared the day as part of Cinco de Mega, an all weekend event incorporating the Zootown Arts Community Center's Last Best Print Fest, Total Fest Rites of Spring, and GCLAW.  Bellatrix Performers ate fire, hula-hooped, and spun poi to the live music of Monks on Fire in between each round, while Bad Naked made a special appearance in gold sequined pants to hold up signs marking each round and asking people to "Bribe" the judges and refs.

The next GCLAW event will be in support of the Zootown Arts Community Center, details TBD.  We are currently recruiting wrasslers, contact gclawmissoula@gmail.com.

Overall Champion Lincoln Hawk Defeats Crowd Favorite Lady Forsyth

On January 31, in Round 3 of GCLAW's Inaugural Brawl, Lincoln Hawk defeated Lady Forsyth to become the first ever GCLAW Champion! The match was tight, coming down to a final right-hand wrassle between Hawk and Forsyth. Bribes were made, but the outcome of a 2-1 win for Lincoln Hawk was declared a clear victory by our celebrity Judges Josh Slotnick, Bob Marshall, and Courtney Blazon.

No arms were broken in The Birth of GCLAW and no animals were injured or eaten during the event, despite the obvious hunger of Sassy Squatch.

Many thanks go out to all those who participated in and all who came out to support our inaugural event. GCLAW raised $450 for Garden City Harvest thanks to your work and your bets!

Thanks to our sponsors, Zoo City Apparel, Carlo's One Night Stand, KBGA College Radio, and the UM Women's Center.
